We remain committed to principle of political settlement of Transnistrian dispute, PDM

The Democratic Party of Moldova (PDM) welcomes the efforts made to resume the Transnistrian conflict settlement talks in the 5+2 format as soon as possible. It says the partnership established within this format can help hasten the identification of a viable political solution. In a communique, the party says that it remains committed to the principle of political settlement of the conflict and welcomes the efforts made by the international partners to promote this objective, on the basis of the fundamental principle of observing the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports. “We welcome the fact that Russia and Ukraine reiterated their attachment to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Moldova. The parties pleaded for the transformation of the peacekeeping mission in Transnistria into an internationally-mandated civil mission. Russia and Ukraine expressed their readiness to get involved in this process and this shows that Russia does not intend to maintain its military presence on Moldova's territory,” it is said in the communique. The PDM also welcomes Russia's and Ukraine's wish to see the Transnistrian region part of a common legal system with Moldova. The statement defines the principles that can be used to identify a political solution to the conflict – constitutional neutrality and creation of a common legal, economic and defense area, the Democratic Party says.
