During the three decades of diplomatic relations, the Republic of Moldova and Italy have built a close and strategic relationship based on the European values they share, Deputy Prime Minister Nicu Popesc, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, stated in Rome, in the joint meeting of the foreign affairs committees of the Senate and the Chamber of Deputies of Italy, IPN reports.
“I transmitted out sincere thanks for the two resolutions adopted by the Committee for Foreign and European Community Affairs of the Chamber of Deputies, which expressed full support for the Republic of Moldova’s accession to the European Union. These resolutions represent a powerful signal of solidarity on the part of Italy on our European road,” stated Nicu Popescu.
The Deputy Premier reiterated the Moldovan Government’s commitment to continue the internal reforms so as to accelerate the process of joining the EU, noting that Moldova faces a number of hybrid attacks aimed at destabilizing the country. According to him, the progress is the best instrument for counteracting propaganda and disinformation and this progress is represented by the European integration, which is the path chosen by the Republic of Moldova.
“We also discussed new cooperation opportunities in the economic sector and the strengthening of business partnerships. Italy is one of the most important commercial partners of the Republic of Moldova, our trade amounting to about €690 million,” said Nicu Popescu.
