We expect Moldova to be a model country within Eastern Partnership, European official
“We expect Moldova to be a model country within the Eastern Partnership and would like to have compatibility with you,” President of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek said during an official meeting with Moldova’s Acting President Marian Lupu held in Brussels on Tuesday, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the Moldovan Parliament.
The European official said that the political instability in Moldova should be overcome as soon as possible. He stressed the importance of achieving the major objectives, including the signing of the Association Agreement with the EU, the liberalization of the visa regime for Moldovan travelers and the reform of the legal system.
In another meeting the same day, the European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule told Marian Lupu that a possibility for overcoming division in society appeared after the November 28, 2010 parliamentary elections. According to him, the main interests of the country should determine all the political forces to join efforts so as to achieve welfare in Moldova.
For his part, Marian Lupu assured the European officials that the present legislature will modify the legislation so as to ensure the sustainability of reforms in Moldova.
On Monday, the Moldovan Head of Parliament met with other European officials, including the President of the Council of Europe Herman Van Rompuy, who approved of the dialogue established between Moldova and the EU during the last two years of democratic government.
Marian Lupu has been paying an official visit to Brussels during March 13-16. It is his first visit to the capital of the EU as Moldova’s Speaker and Acting President.
