The supporters of the European integration came together in the central square of Chisinau to take part in the event announced by President Maia Sandu. The people said that they came to state their support for Moldova’s European path. Many of the participants carried flags, while others received the flags of Moldova and the EU from the organizers. A stage was set up in front of the Government Building. Patriotic songs are played in the square, IPN reports.
Petru Sîrbu, a young man attending the European Moldova Assembly, said the country should integrate into the EU as he wants a better future for the children, a prosperous future at home, not somewhere far from home. He believes that this is not easy, but is possible. “Any path is difficult initially, but we will slowly succeed,” noted Petru Sîrbu.
“Today is goes to life or death, not to politics. It now goes to our firm message to the great powers – don’t abandon us. We want to be part of the European Union. We want to be together with the civilized world,” said the director of “Mihai Eminescu” National Theater Petru Hadârcă.
Dressed in a national blouse, Angela Vizitiu said the European path is the only path for Moldova. “Who helps us? The European Union! Which are the democratic countries? The EU member states! Who follows a road to freedom? The European Union! And who are the riches people? Those from the EU!” she noted.
Pavel Ignat is from Anenii Noi district. He said he came to the Greta National Assembly Square today to support the position of the President, the Government and Parliament. He voiced hope that the people at this event will be able to pronounce on such national issues as the European path, the withdrawal from the CIS. ”In the European Union, there is democracy and this is respected indeed, not superficially, as in other states. There is authentic democracy. I want a European future for everyone, especially for my six grandchildren,” stated Pavel Ignat.
“I came here because I felt the need to come. We must show that we are a force that wants to be part of the European Union, not of some other unions. Many are manipulated and continue to live with the Soviet view, considering that it will be better with Russia. But we see what Russia does in Ukraine and I think that all the people of Moldova will soon realize that our path is the European path, a democratic path as we should enjoy good living conditions and the democratic values,” said Valeriu Musteață from Cahul.
The European Moldova Assembly is to transmit a firm message to the international community about the sincere wish of the Moldovans to be part of the European family. The event is staged ahead of the European Political Community Summit that Moldova will host on June 1.
