The Moldova Support Platform was created in 2022 with the objective of supporting both financially and sectorally the Republic of Moldova, which was seriously affected by the consequences of the war waged by Russia on Ukraine. In this format, through the four ministerial conferences, as well as through the activity of working groups, it was possible to mobilize important resources to support the Republic of Moldova. Thus, the country has become stronger, more resilient, thanks to the generous support offered by its friends and partners. On Tuesday in Chisinau, the transition to the Moldova Partnership Platform format was marked as a success. The statements were made at the press conference held after the fifth edition of the Moldova Partnership Platform, initiated by Romania, Germany, and France, IPN reports.

Deputy Prime Minister Mihai Popșoi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, said that today’s event involved delegations from numerous states that support the Republic of Moldova. “We are now in the situation where we can change the Support Platform into the Partnership Platform and this is gladdening. We are confident that we overcame the most difficult period and now we can make plans for the medium and long terms. We can, together with our friends, think about and strengthen democracy, the rule of law and the economy of our country,” stated Mihai Popșoi.

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said that the Moldova Partnership Platform, although it sounds a bit technical, is, in fact, a very big success for the diplomatic service. “The platform, which is the success story of brave and resilient people, now managed to move from anti-crisis reactions to planned strategies,” stated the German official.

Annalena Baerbock noted that the European Union and NATO contribute to strengthening border protection and ensuring security. In such a difficult situation, Moldova, as an EU candidate state, started important reforms in the field of justice and in the fight against corruption. Moldova is well prepared, but there is still a lot to do. “That’s why, today, we must follow together Moldova’s path to the European Union. The partnership for Moldova and this Platform show that we are stronger. It is a proof that we can face crises, through wise democracy, namely to fight crises before they spread. We will not give up as Europeans. We will stay by Moldova’s side determined,” said the German foreign minister.

According to the Romanian foreign minister, the context in which the Moldova Support Platform is held changed significantly. “That’s why, at this ministerial conference, we marked the transformation of the Moldova Support Platform into the Moldova Partnership Platform and we want in this way to have a medium and long-term cooperation instrument capable of appropriately responding to the current and future support needs identified by the official Chisinau,” stated Luminița Odobescu.

She noted that the Moldova Partnership Platform mainly provides support in the country’s European integration process, for developing the state in a sustainable way, especially for strengthening its resilience, through continuous mobilization of technical and financial assistance. “I reassure that Romania will stand by the Republic of Moldova bilaterally, at European level, at the negotiations for accession to the European Union and in concrete aspects related to economic development, infrastructure consolidation and, especially, energy security,” said the Romanian official.

The Moldova Partnership Platform, initiated by Romania, Germany and France, took place in Chisinau. The meeting was also attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of France Stéphane Séjourné, who could not take part in the press conference as he had another scheduled event. Recently, Séjourné was appointed to serve on the European Commission on behalf of France.
