WB to finance a project related to developing national network of roadways

The World Bank (WB) prepares at the solicitation of Moldova’s Government a project related to the development of the national network of roadways in the Republic of Moldova, Paul Bermingham Country Director, declared at a meeting with PM Vasile Tarlev. The official of WB is paying a visit to Moldova on October 9-10. According to a press release of the Government, the Country Director of the WB told about the availability of the bank to increase the volume of financing provided to Moldova, specifying that on October 12, a meeting will take place in Washington, within which the first project of the Economic Growth and Poverty Reduction Strategy Paper (EGPRSP) will be discussed. As well, the members of the board will discuss about the efficiency of the assistance strategy for Moldova. The PM Tarlev appreciated the constructive standpoint of the WB in its relations with the Government of the Republic of Moldova expressing his gratitude for the Bank’s support in implementing projects on water supply and in the areas of health protection and strengthening border security etc. The Government has already presented the draft Budget Law for 2007, were it included in the chapter of expenses the credit which was negotiated with the WB. The credit amounting to USD 10 mln and destined to budgetary support is planned to be disbursed in January 2007. The Minister of Finance, Mihai Pop declared that the money will be used for maintenance of roadways.
