WB names new Regional Director for Moldova

The World Bank appointed a new Regional Director for Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova. Qimiao Fan took up his duties on February 1, Info-Prim Neo reports. According to a press release from the World Bank Country Office in Moldova, Qimiao Fan will supervise the Bank’s program in the three countries and will manage the country team, laying emphasis on the results, quality and efficiency. The new director will coordinate the policy dialogue with government officials, civil society and other partners. Qimiao Fan is a Chinese national. He started work for the World Bank in 1991. He served as economist and senior economist for Russia and the CIS countries. From January 1998 until September 2002, he had held different high-ranking executive posts in China’s private sector. When back to the WB in 2002, he was named program leader for the Investment Climate Capacity Enhancement Program of the World Bank Institute. His most recent position was that of Country Director for Cambodia. Qimiao Fan replaced Martin Raiser, who had worked as Regional Director for Ukraine, Belarus and Moldova since July 7, 2008. Last month, Raiser was appointed as Regional Director for Turkey.
