Waters claim four more lives
Four person, one of whom a minor, drowned in Moldova’s waters on July 19.
Liliana Puscasu, spokeswoman for the Civil Protection and Emergencies Service, has told Info-Prim Neo that the 12-year-old boy from Baharinesti village of Floresti district drowned in the Raut River before the eyes of his helpless mates. His body was taken out by villagers in several hours.
A 33-year-old man drowned in a pond in Gribova village, Drochia. The body of an unidentified man in his 40s was found in the reservoir near Dubasari. Another man, 62, died in a pond in the Gagauz village Tomai.
The strong currents, thermal shock caused by the cold water and alcohol consumption are the most frequent causes of death by drowning. 90% of the drowned persons are men, who go swimming while under the influence, Liliana Puscasu said.
Eighty-five persons, including 17 children, have drowned in Moldova this year.
