Water tariffs in Chisinau to go up

The National Agency for Energy Regulation on May 19 approved a decision that provides for the increase in water tariffs in Chisinau municipality, IPN reports.

Household users will pay 10.69 lei per cubic meter of water, as opposed to 9.19 lei at present. For business entities, the new tariff will be 24.46 lei, as against 22.96 lei at present.

The supplier’s request was satisfied partially. SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” asked to raise the tariff to 11.75 lei per cubic meter for domestic users and to 25.52 lei for business entities.

“Apa-Canal Chisinau” director Veronica Herta said these rises are necessary for being able to implement the project financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development and the European Investment Bank, which comes to almost €62 million. The largest part of this money – about €26 million – will be used to modernize the wastewater treatment station and to repair the water supply and sewerage networks. There will also be rehabilitated 200 km of water pipes, over 3,000 branch pipes of apartment buildings and about 7 km of sewer pipes.

In the same meeting, the Agency also pronounced on the request made by IM “Apa-Canal” Ungheni. Household users in Ungheni will pay 20.47 lei per cubic meter, up from 19.95 lei at present, while business entities will pay 38.47 lei, up 33.32 lei from now.

The decisions will take effect when they are published.
