The water supplied through the water pipeline of Chisinau municipality will not contain chlorine from April. The chlorine will be replaced by sodium hypochlorite. In the second Investment Forum on Water and Sewerage Services in Moldova on March 20, the director of SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” Constantin Becciev said that the decision to replace the disinfectant was taken after the first edition of the forum, Info-Prim Neo reports. He also said that the new technology was suggested by foreign companies in 2011 and is financed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development. The equipment is being installed at the Wastewater Treatment Station and will be put in commission at the start of April. The costs for treating the water with sodium hypochlorite will be higher, but the water charges will not rise. According to Constantin Becciev, the new treatment method will improve the quality of water. The studies reveal that the cases of tuberculosis and hepatitis in the towns were the liquid chlorine was substituted by sodium hypocrite fell by 30-50%. The legislation adopted through the EU Directives allows implementing a large investment program. Currently, SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” is actively cooperating with the Association “Moldova Apa-Canal” and the relevant ministries and agencies in improving the legal framework. The Investment Forum on Water and Sewerage Services in Moldova is taking place on March 20-21.
