Water meters with distance reading have been already installed in 13 apartment buildings in Chisinau of the 100 covered by the first stage. The 13 blocks with 141 apartments are situated on Negresteni St and witness the biggest difference in the volumes indicated by the common meter and the individual meters, IPN reports.

In a news conference, SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” director general Veronica Herta reminded that the meters of the new type in the 13 blocks were installed within a municipal program launched on January 20. “The necessity of implementing this project appeared when the dissatisfaction of consumers, on the one hand, and the confusion of the operators of SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau”, on the other hand, reached a maximum level. Regrettably, according to the information provided by “Infocom”, almost 27% of the consumers monthly declare zero consumption of water,” stated Veronica Herta.

She noted that schemes to illegally use water are discovered in each fourth apartment and the difference in metered water derives from here. Therefore, the supplier aims to install water meters with distance reading in all the apartments in Chisinau.

The new type meters set up in the first 13 blocks were bought within a project several years ago. The supplier announced a tender contest to purchase similar meters for the other apartments. As a result, ultrasonic water meters will be installed in 50 apartment buildings and mechanic meters in another 50. In several months of the installation, the specialists of SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” will be able to determine which of the meters are more efficient. The water supplier will cover all the installation costs.

A sum of €8 million is needed to set up meters of the new type in all the about 260,000 apartments in Chisinau. Negotiations are held with foreign partners to get financing for the given project.
