The water in the aqueduct of Chisinau municipality meets the chemical norms and is safe to drink. The laboratory tests performed recently at the Wastewater Treatment Station confirm this, said Ion Cascaval, head of the station’s laboratory service, quoted by IPN.
There was compared the pH in the running water, flat water and bottled water. The pH defines the acidic or alkaline composition of the water. The drinking water must have a pH of 6.5 to 9.
The tests showed no major difference between the faucet water and the bottled water. “The running water is of a high quality, does not negatively influence the health and shouldn’t be filtered,” said Arcadie Rusnac, head of the Water Quality Control Division of SA Apa-Canal Chisinau.
The mineral water has a higher pH and should be drunk under the doctor’s supervision. When drunk in excess, it can cause health problems, including stomach burns and formation of stones in the kidneys.
The running water in Chisinau comes from the Nistru River and is purified at the Chisinau Wastewater Treatment Station. In 2012, the water treatment technology was changed. Now there is used a more stable disinfectant, with a smaller concentration of chlorine.
