The Chisinau public water utility may soon sign a financing contract for the rehabilitation of the municipal water and sewerage system. The works were assessed at about €70 million.
In the July 15 ordinary meeting of Chisinau City Hall officials, SA “Apa-Canal Chisinau” director Constantin Becciev said representatives of the municipality last week had a meeting with officials of the EBRD. The discussions centered on the attraction of investments for rehabilitating the water and sewerage system, including the wastewater treatment station. There are chances to sign the contract in the near future, but the investors have doubts about the tariffs as they are ten times lower than in the neighboring countries.
“In order to have a rehabilitated wastewater treatment station, the sewerage charges should be raised to the level of the water charges, which is to minimum 8 lei,” said Constantin Becciev.
He also said that the feasibility project designed by the European partners, which was approved by the Chisinau Council last December, describes the steps that must be taken to rehabilitate all the networks managed by “Apa-Canal Chisinau”. The first rehabilitation stage will last for four years, while the works will cost more than €60 million. Another €11 million will be provided as grant.
