Watch out for pickpockets in minibuses

A Chisinau man faces 2 years in jail for stealing money from people's pockets and purses. Adrian Jovmir, press officer of the General Police Commissariat, told Info-Prim Neo the 31-year-old man was caught on Friday, October 1. He “went to work” in a minibus on route nr. 113. The man chose a young woman, thinking she looked richer than the others. He approached her and pretended to bump against her because of driver's maneuvers. However, the woman noticed how he stole her purse and screamed. The pickpocket hurried to leave the minibus, but was caught by two policemen who happened to be nearby and were specialized in dealing with this kind of crimes. They took him to Ciocana Police Commissariat, where they documented the case. The alleged thief lives in Chisinau. The 31-year-old had been previously sentenced for similar crimes and for doing drugs. His actions fall under article 192 of the Penal Code, referring to “Pickpockets”. If he is found guilty he will have to pay between 6.000 and 10.000 lei, to do between 180 and 240 hours of community service or he can be jailed for 2 years.
