Watch out for falling tree branches, icicles!

Municipal authorities in Chisinau are on alert over this weekend as windy conditions coupled with thawing weather have created the hazard of falling tree branches and icicles. Galina Leahu, deputy head at the Greenspaces agency, has told Info-Prim Neo squads are on the lookout to intervene whenever and wherever necessary. The police are also monitoring the situation. “We don't know where the strongest gusts of wind will blow so we need to be prepared for everything. “People should be aware that it's not safe to park their cars near trees, although this may be an impossible thing to avoid – Chisinau has trees just everywhere. “Let me emphasize, however, that the greatest, life-threatening hazard is the falling icicles, so watch out when walking near buildings!”, warned Galina Leahu. Meanwhile, no major branch-falling incident has occurred. Weathermen have issued a yellow-coded advisory for wind for Saturday, with western wind expected to blow up to 20 meters per second. On Sunday the wind will lose some strength.
