Wastepaper collected in stairs of apartment buildings in Chisinau for recycling

An enterprise during two months has implemented the project “City Service” to collect wastepaper in the large boxes installed in the stairs of apartment buildings in Chisinau. By recycling, the collected wastepaper is turned into toilet paper and napkins. So far there were installed about 200 such boxes.

“The goal of the project “City Service” is to solve the problem of waste in the stairs of blocks, near entrances and in the yards of blocks, which includes different paper promotional materials that are distributed to dwellers,” the enterprise’s financial director Roman Todorița has told IPN. By this project, the firm contributes to developing the culture of selection of waste by categories, before taking this to waste bins.

The authors of the project set down a number of rules, such as only magazines, newspapers, books and A4 paper are accepted, not yet cardboard. The firm installs the boxes and takes the wastepaper to its final collection point in Cojușna village at its own expense. Roman Todorița said their economic benefits are rather small, but they are glad that they can provide a useful service for the city.

Ion Nofit, the head of an association of dwellers of a residential complex situated in Malina Mică area of Centru district, where wastepaper boxes were installed, said that in a meeting of the complex’s administration board, a member spoke about the project “City Service” and they decided to invite the enterprise to install the boxes, after signing an agreement with this.

The enterprise signed agreements with large companies operating in Chisinau. These offer the enterprise large volumes of wastepaper, including after they digitize the archives and no longer need the paper archives.
