The Buiucani Court of Chisinau extended the warrant for the arrest of Liberal-Democratic MP Vlad Filat for another 30 days. The politician is accused of acts of corruption and influence peddling, IPN reports.
Judge Ghenadie Pavliuc said the prosecutors’ request to extend the arrest warrant that expires on November 14 for 30 days was accepted.
Anticorruption prosecutor Adriana Betisor said there was provided new evidence showing that the accused could interfere in the investigation if he was set free. The prosecutors consider the fact that Vlad Filat refused to come to the hearing is evasion.
The prosecutor refused to comment on the reports about the woman investigated within the Filat case for taking part in money laundering, who was put on the wanted list.
Before the judgment was passed, the politician’s lawyer Igor Popa said that he presented sufficient proofs to show that Vlad Filat will not avoid the investigation bodies and will be unable to influence witnesses. As to the fact that Vlad Filat didn’t attend the meeting, Igor Popa said that it is his right to refuse to attend. This morning the lawyers asked the Judge Pavliuc should be replaced by another judge became he is related to the leader of the Democratic Party Marian Lupu, but their application was rejected.
