The National Public Health Center warns the population about the possible pollution of water in public and individual phreatic wells following the recent torrential rain. The people are warned to be careful what water they use and to protect the food products from contamination, IPN reports.
In a press release, the Center says that if the wells were flooded as a result of the heavy rain, the water must be pumped out of the well, while the mud must be taken out. The well’s walls must be washed and disinfected with 5% calcium hypochlorite. When a similar volume of water accumulates, the water must be disinfected again.
According to the Center, the people must pay special attention to the possible pollutants of well water such as decentralized sewerage systems, outhouses and waste dumps that become dangerous for water from wells in such a situation.
Boiled water should be used in the flooded settlements for all purposes in the period. The children should be given bottled flat water. The food products must be kept in a dry place so as to prevent their decay in wetness.
In all the situations of well flooding, the people are obliged to inform the local public authorities and local offices of the State Public Health Surveillance Service about this.
