The State Weather Service warned that the volume of water discharged in the Dnestrovsck accumulation lake increased and can lead to an increase by 2.7-4.3 meters in the level of water on the Soroca – Dubăsari section of the Nistru River during November 24-27. In such conditions, flooding of farmland is possible, IPN reports.
The Novodnistrovsck hydropower plant currently discharges 2,200 m3/s, while the protection levees on the Nistru were projected for a discharge volume of 2,400-2,600 m3/s. The Naslavcea monitoring unit showed the level of water in the Nistru was constant between 9am and 11am on November 24.
According to the State Weather Service, the gardens and houses are not in danger at the moment. The huge energy crisis in Ukraine requires increasing the energy production at the Novodnistrovsck hydropower plant so as to satisfy the country’s needs. Therefore, large volumes of water are discharged there.
Specialists warn the population to take into account the possible increases in the level of water in the Nistru. The information will be updated depending on the developments.
