The War Veterans Union of Chisinau municipality has a new chairman. This is Vasile Iacubov. In a news conference at IPN, this said it is not easy to hold the post of chairman, but, together with the veterans, he will do his best to overcome the difficulties faced by these. “We will not make unachievable promises, but a lot is to be done in the municipality and the country,” stated Vasile Iacubov.
He noted that those who fought for the country have been ignored during 25 years. Often treated as strangers, they met with closed doors at the institutions where they wanted to seek help. But the situation has changed and it has changed to the better.
“We are a well-organized force able to produce changes that will bring improvements in society and among us. These patriots of the nation will soon benefit from increased pensions, allowances and tickets to sanatoriums in the country and abroad,” stated Vasile Iacubov.
According to the new chairman, there will be applied a new working formula, aimed at uniting the veterans so that they could protect their rights and ensure better cooperation with the governmental agencies and international institutions. “There are ambitious projects, but consolidation, patience and wisdom are needed,” concluded Vasile Iacubov.
The president of the War Veterans Union of Moldova Mihai Balan said that after many years during which the situation of veterans had worsened, they ultimately managed to obtain the adoption of higher pensions for war veterans. Thus, from March 1, the veterans who have disability degrees will get pensions of 1,500 to 3,500 lei. At national level, they work to design a new, biometric veterans’ permit to prevent the falsification of these permits. Such a step is needed given that there are now about 37,000 holders of permits, but the real number of veterans who fought is much lower.
