War veterans invited to Government Building to discuss their demands

The war veterans ended the protest started in the morning of March 2 close to 8pm. Before the event was closed, a number of representatives of the protesters were invited to the Government Building where they discussed their demands with Prime Minister Ion Chicu, IPN reports.

As a result of discussions, it was decided to set up a war veterans department that will be controlled by the Government. The General Veterans Assembly will be convened to choose the persons who will be proposed for public posts in the executive body and who will represent the veterans.

Also, the veterans complained that the National Council for Veterans Problems and other similar organizations do not represent them. The veterans asked that all the participants in war should be issued free with health insurance policy and that they should be annually allocated an amount of money for receiving treatment at health resorts. In reply, Premier Chicu assured that all the veterans will be provided with health insurance policy free of charge. As to the budget for therapy, he said that the relevant calculations should be done first.

As regards the protesters’ demand to dismiss Aureliu Ciocoi from the post of minister of foreign affairs, Ion Chicu said this will not happen as Aureliu Ciocoi provided an explanation over his statements about the Nistru war and this is enough.

Premier Chicu invited the veterans to a meeting in the Government Building at 7am on March 3 to analyze the demands submitted by them.

According to the Police, all the illegalities committed by the participants in the protest staged by the veterans were recorded and are being examined and the persons involved in these will be penalized in accordance with the law. During the event, some of the protesters tried to destabilize public order. As a result, the entrance glass door of the Government Building was broken and damage was thus caused. The protesters also violated the citizens’ right to free movement by blocking a number of arteries, barring thus the access of public transport.

The veterans protested in the Great National Assembly Square of Chisinau starting at 9am on March 2 to show their dissatisfaction with the authorities’ attitude to them. Besides social demands, the protesters also sought the resignation of the Government and of President Igor Dodon.
