War signs banned by law drawn at entrance to Tomai village

“Gagauzia stands by you” was written in Russian on the road at the entrance to Tomai village of Ceadîr-Lunga village, with the letters “Z” and “V” being highlighted in orange. The black-and-orange ribbon of Saint George, which was banned by law, was drawn below.

Contacted by IPN for a comment, Olga Dutca, press officer of the Ceadîr-Lunga Police Inspectorate, said that checks were carried out and a decision will be issued in accordance with the law.

The Contravention Code of the Republic of Moldova was amended to ban symbols and signs that promote military actions, war crimes and crimes against humanity. Among these are the letters “Z” and “V”. Private individuals who do not obey this ban risk fines of up to 9,000 lei or 30 to 60 hours of community service, the persons holding responsible posts – a fine of at most 18,000 lei, while the legal entities – a fine of at most 30,000 lei.

Representatives of the Police said that over 60 cases of violation of the legal norms that ban the use of war symbols have been identified by now.
