Voting process cannot last longer than two hours after 9pm, CEC

There is no legal provision enabling the citizens to file an application to the electoral commission to ask for the extension of the voting process, the Central Election Commission said in connection with information that appeared on social networking sites, IPN reports.

“The prerogative to extend the voting time at a polling station belongs to the electoral commission of the polling place and this time cannot be longer than two hours after 9pm, the local time of the state where the polling station is situated,” the CEC said in a press release.

The CEC noted that it sent a sufficient number of ballots to all the out-of-country polling stations, the highest number for a station being 5,000 ballots. It calls on the candidates and citizens not to disseminate manipulative messages that can endanger the electoral process and can generate tensions among voters.
