The Press Council kicked off the voting for candidates for the National Journalistic Ethics and Professional Deontology Award for 2016. Those who want can vote for their favorite candidate at www.mediaforum.md by activating the banner “Vote online!”, IPN reports.
Nine media outlets proposed by media consumers and a group of experts of the Press Council were admitted to the contest. The candidates are: the news portal Agora.md, the online anticorruption platform Anticoruptie.md, the regional Rezina newspaper Cuvantul, the news agency IPN, the news portal Newsmaker.md, the Soroca newspaper Observatorul de Nord, Radio Chisinau, the investigation portal Rise.md and the journalistic investigations weekly Ziarul de Garda.
The candidates will be assessed by the public until November 15 this year. Thus, the visitors of the online platform can give points to the favorite candidates, but not more than 10 points a week from a computer.
Afterward, the professional conduct of the applicant media outlets will be assessed by the group of experts and members of the Press Council, in accordance with the provisions of the Journalist’s Deontological Code of Moldova. At the last stage of the contest, the score of each media outlet will be validated by applying the criteria laid down in the contest’s regulations.
The final decision will be taken by the Press Council in December. As the organizer, the Press Council can decide not to confer the Award if it considers that the applicant media outlets do not deserve it.
The National Journalistic Ethics and Professional Deontology Award was instituted by the Press Council in 2015 to promote high quality journalism and good journalistic practices. In 2015 the award was won by the Office of Radio Free Europe in Chisinau.
