Voters’ indifference encourages candidates to include everything possible in platforms
The promises made by the electoral contenders in the campaign preceding the June 5 elections are not realistic, considers expert of the Institute for Development and Social Initiative (IDIS) “Viitorul” Corneliu Ciurea.
The expert stated for Info-Prim Neo that there is no consistency in setting out the priorities and this creates confusion. “The candidates make promises concerning all the spheres as if they have the necessary financial resources to take steps in all the sensitive areas of Chisinau during four years, including road repair, cleanup, attraction of investments, recreational areas,” said Corneliu Ciurea.
As there is no hierarchy of priorities, the voters cannot understand what measures will be taken the first year, the second year and the next years. All the electoral promises are unclear and include all the things possible, said the expert.
Corneliu Ciurea also said that the electoral promises are designed to obtain votes, not to clearly define the tasks of the future mayor. For their part, the voters do not penalize the politicians for their empty promises as they are rather indifferent to how the public affairs are managed. They are disposed to vote according to the political criteria, not administrative efficiency. This indifference encourages the candidates to include everything they want in their platforms in order to make them more attractive.
