The Supreme Court of Justice upheld the decision of the Balti Appeals Court by which the November 3 runoffs of the local elections held in Călineşti village of Făleşti district were nullified. This way, the voters in this village will go again to the polls.
Contacted by IPN, president of the Central Election Commission Dorin Cimil said the jurists of the CEC are analyzing the Balti Appeals Court’s decision of February 13 so as to decide whether new elections should be held or the runoffs should be rerun there.
He added the CEC decided that new local elections on May 17 will take place in two villages and the inhabitants of Călineşti will most probably be invited to the polls the same day.
The results of the runoffs in Călineşti were challenged by the Action and Solidary Party’s candidate for mayor Eduard Curtescu. This involved multiple electoral frauds committed in the runoffs by his opponent who was declared winner - Svetlana Pădure of the Democratic Party.
