Voters in Buteni expected at polling stations for the fourth time this year
The Central Election Commission (CEC) on Tuesday, October 16, ordered that elections for mayor and local council be rerun in Buteni village, Hancesti district, on December 16.
CEC was compelled to resort to early elections after three consecutive attempts to convene the local council had failed. Elections for mayor will be re-held because a group of villagers blocked the access to the polling station this Sunday.
On December 16 the villagers in Buteni will mark the fourth attempt this year to elect a mayor. Problems have emerged after the courts refused to declare Anatolie Postolache as winner, citing breaches of the Electoral Code. CEC scheduled repeat elections for July 1, but their outcome wasn’t declared valid either. The third attempt was again cut short by a group of villagers who were disappointed that Postolache was excluded from the race.
