Voters in Bucharest voted for freedom, democracy and right to return home

About 20,000 Moldovans are expected to vote at the eight polling places opened in the Romanian towns of Bucharest, Iasi, Galati, Timisoara, Cluj-Napoca, Constanta, and Brasov. Those who marked their ballots voted mainly for freedom, democracy and the right to return home, Info-Prim Neo’s correspondent in Bucharest reported. Though about 20,000 voters are expected to take part in elections, the number of participants could be higher as many Moldovans are in Romania on visit, on vacation or in transit. Over 200 persons voted at polling place No. 348. The number is slightly higher compared with the previous elections. Igor Hancu, a graduate of the Military Academy of Bucharest studying for his Master’s Degree, said he voted for the right to return to Moldova and to be able to make a career at home. “I want to return home and find work there,” said Igor Hancu. “After graduating from the Military Academy in 2005, I could not find a job in Moldova and had to return to Romania. Now I’m sure I have real chances to return to my native village Floreni of Anenii Noi district and make a career in my country.” Tatiana Lugovschi is in Romania on a visit and decided to exercise her right to vote there. “I voted for democracy, welfare and a better future for our children. I hope Parliament will elect the head of state and there will be stability in Moldova. I want the press in Moldova to be really free,” she said. “I voted for freedom, prosperity and real successes in the process of Moldova’s integration into the EU,” said another voter, Svetlana Tautu. “I’m optimistic and believe in a better future for our country.” A number of requests for the mobile ballot box were made in Bucharest in the first half of the day. “Unfortunately, mobile voting abroad is not possible, but we will make everything possible to transport the persons who cannot go to the polling place,” said Gheorghe Cucos, the head of the electoral bureau of polling place No. 348 , which was set up at Moldova’s Embassy in Bucharest. The two polling places in Bucharest will be open until 9pm. The Moldovans who go to the polling places in Romania by train travel free of charge.
