According to preliminary data from the Central Election Commission announced at around 23:00 on Sunday, the voter turnout in the constitutional referendum was 29,67%, more than 3 percent short of the one-third validation threshold, Info-Prim Neo reports. The CEC still awaits results from a number of polling stations in Dubasari district as well as from some overseas polling places, including Washington. According to this preliminary information, the most active voters were in Telenesti district, with a turnout of 41.8%, and the most passive in Gagauzia, with 8.61%. CEC has activated its web page www.voteaza.md which shows the results of Sunday's referendum. According to preliminary information at 23:30, 87.41% of the votes cast are in favor of direct popular elections for the president; 12.59% voted against.
