48.95% of the persons written on voter rolls cast their ballots in the June 14 local elections, as against 54% in the elections of 2011. In a press briefing held after the polling places were closed, Central Election Commission president Iurie Ciocan said the voter turnout in practically all the settlements was higher than 25% and the elections can be thus validated, IPN reports.
Donduseni is the district constituency with the highest voter turnout - 58.8%. In the Autonomous Territorial Unit of Gagauzia, the voter turnout was the lowest – 43.8%. In the municipality of Chisinau, 47.4% of the electors voted, while in the municipality of Balti – 48.1%.
Over 50% of the voters from Corjova cast their ballots at the polling place in Cocieri and there were reported no major incidents.
In Ulmu village of Ialoveni district, the voter turnout was lower than 25% so that the elections there will be rerun in two weeks.
Iurie Ciocan also spoke about the incident in Topala village of Cimislia district, where a polling place was devastated. By the time the incident happened, 57.7% of the voters had cast their ballots. The Central Election Commission will ask annulling the election results there. If the court returns such a verdict, new elections will be held tin this village in two weeks.
