The Central Election Commission said more than 1.3 million Moldovans voted in the presidential elections by 7pm. This is over 47% of the voters. Chisinau municipality is the electoral district with the highest voter turnout – over 51%. The lowest turnout was recorded in Gagauzia – 38%, IPN reports.

CEC member Maxim Lebedinski said that according to the information furnished by the public authorities and other institutions, no major incidents or violations that could affect the election process were witnessed. However, there were reported cases of electoral campaigning near polling places. In Orhei town, a number of people called on the residents not to vote in elections. The police fined these persons.

The CEC was also notified of other deficiencies, which it classed as minor ones, such as the lack of electric power at some of the polling places, presence of electoral posters and advertisements near polling places and difficulties in connecting to the State Register of Voters.

More than 54,000 people voted at the polling places established outside the country’s borders by 7pm.
