Voter turnout approaches 55% by 18:00
The number of people who voted by 18:00 exceeded 1.5 million, accounting for 54.95% of the total number of eligible voters, informed CEC Secretary Iurie Ciocan, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In Basarabeasca district the turnout was as high as 69.54% and in the Gagauz Autonomy as low as 47.93%.
In Chisinau municipality the voter turnout was 59.14% and in the 'northern capital', Balti 53.21%.
In previous polls the voter turnout at 18:00 was 49.2% on 29 July 2009 and 52.12% on 5 April 2009.
At the polling stations abroad, the Most active remain to be the Moldova voters in Italy, where 1850 people voted in Rome alone. To compare, in Greece and the Czech Republic only around 400-500 people showed up.
The polling stations will stay open until 21:00 Chisinau time. The polling stations in China have already closed.
