Voronin to join Moldovan delegation to PACE

Moldovan Communist Party (PCRM) leader Vladimir Voronin will be member of the standing parliamentary delegation to the sessions of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE), as his party colleague, Grigore Petrenco, will be auxiliary member, under a decision adopted in Parliament on Friday, May 7, Info-Prim Neo reports. The change in the delegation's composition was made after the Moldovan authorities had been warned at the recent PACE meeting in April that the delegation must include representatives of the parliamentary opposition, too. The Moldovan delegation has already participated in incomplete composition in three PACE sessions. The Communist faction had refused participation because it had considered the delegation composition to be unfair. Asked to comment on the vote of the Alliance for European Integration to include Voronin into the delegation, MP Grigore Petrenco said at a news conference that the majority coalition seemed to have understood its mistake. “We warned them last September it was a big mistake. Moldova was about to create a precedent being the only country not to include opposition representatives into the PACE delegation”, said Grigore Petrenco. But Communist MP Vadim Misin doubts that the governing alliance managed to learn any lesson from it. Rather, he says, the government was obliged by Europeans to make that decision. “The democrats won't learn anything until the elections, until they lose them”, Misin said.
