Voronin says he did not order maltreating young protesters
After questioned again on January 26 in the case opened over the April 2009 events, the former head of state Vladimir Voronin said he found out about the events that took place in the police stations on April 7 in the evening from the press, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“I found out about the use of torture in the police commissariats from the press. Instructions were later given to investigate every case. I did not order maltreating and judging the young people in commissariats. I instructed that they be released immediately and sent home or that the parents come and take them,” he said.
Vladimir Voronin said that the hearings were correct and civilized and that he described the events as they happened
Igor Popa, the head of the Prosecution Division of the Prosecutor General's Office, said Vladimir Voronin will be summoned again as a witness if need be. He added the statements made by the former head of state will be analyzed so as to decide what steps to take next.
