Voronin re-elected as Communist Party president
Vladimir Voronin has been re-elected for another four-year term as the president of the Communist Party at its Seventh Congress on Saturday. Voronin, the sole candidate, was supported by 454 out 463 party delegates attending the assembly, Info-Prim Neo reports.
“It has come as no surprise to me”, Voronin told a press briefing after the event.
He further told reporters that the Party would stick to its principles. “I feel in this party like within a family, because we share common goals, common objectives and common problems”, stated Vladimir Voronin.
He added that the Communists were ready to return to Parliament only if the government reopened the channel NIT. “The proposal to amend the Anti-discrimination Law was just a rescue rope we tried to throw to the Alliance. But we have decided we will return only when they reopen the channel NIT” , declared Vladimir Voronin.
Vladimir Voronin has been the leader of the Communist Party of Moldova since 1994. He was Moldova's third President during 2001-2009.
