Though the leader of the PCRM Vladimir Voronin in the morning of May 19 announced that he will have a meeting with European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Štefan Füle, he changed his mind in several hours. According to a communiqué from the PCRM, the meeting was cancelled in protest at the European official’s ‘arrogant behavior’ during his visit to Chisinau, IPN reports.

“When for high-ranking European officials the support for such marginal groups as the sexual minorities and for the criminal-oligarchic groups that are in power is more important than the respect for the rights and vital interests of the Moldovan citizens, the Communist Party considers that the scheduled meeting is useless,” it is said in the communiqué.

Also on Sunday, the leader of the PCRM told the journalists that he wasn’t invited to Europe Day, but he does not really understand the meaning of this holiday. “These games of theirs with Europe Day without the Great Victory of May 9, 1945 that was won by the Soviet people wouldn’t have been possible,” said Vladimir Voronin.

He also said that he will not take part in the discussions on the formation of the new Government and will return to the subject of the parliamentary majority after the early legislative elections. According to the Communist leader, Deputy Speaker Liliana Palihovich cannot perform the duties of Speaker as this is against the Constitution.

The statements were made during a public event staged by the PCRM near the monument to Lenin at the exhibitions center Moldexpo. The Communists celebrated the Pioneer’s Day and accepted a number of young people as members of the party.

Štefan Füle on May 18 had separate meetings with President Nicolae Timofti, the leader of PDM Marian Lupu and the leader of the PLDM Vlad Filat. On May 19 in the morning, he met with the leader of the Socialists Igor Dodon.
