Voronin introduces Rosca as deputy prime minister

Outgoing president Vladimir Voronin has introduced the freshly appointed deputy prime minister Iurie Rosca, who is also the leader of the Christian Democratic People's Party, to the Government at its meeting on Wednesday, Info-Prim Neo reports. “We've never crossed the line and never forgotten that we are, first of all, citizens of the Republic of Moldova”, Voronin commented on the relationship between the Communists Party, whose leader he is, and the Christian-Democratic People's Party, once a hard right group that demanded the ousting of Voronin. The head of state highlighted “the courage and allegiance of Iurie Rosca to the Republic of Moldova, to the sovereignty and independence of the country, when a political crisis, perhaps no softer than the present one, had been overcome”. The president also spoke of Rosca's “prodigious activity” as deputy speaker of Parliament, expressing hope that he will be as effective in his new job as he was in the legislature. In the Government, Rosca will be responsible for human rights and freedoms, public order, crime combating, etc. At the end of the meeting, Rosca promised transparency in his relationship with the media and openness to dialogue. In another connection, the president announced he will have a busy agenda for the next period – first he will head the Moldova delegation for the Central-European Summit, to take place on June 19 in Serbia, and then he will travel to Israel on June 21 and to Russia on June 22.
