Vladimir Voronin said he does not intend to return any of the 84 guns he owns as he holds all of them legally. The former head of state also said that he has collected the arms during many years and intends to give them to an institution, where they will be well guarded, Info-Prim Neo reports. “This collection has a special historical value. It includes stone and wooden arms, cudgels and pistols that were used in duels in the 17th – 18th centuries. It is indeed a very interesting collection and it should be kept somewhere in a museum or at the Ministry of Defense,” Vladimir Voronin said. He also said that in the period when Victor Gaiciuc had been Minister of Defense, a special hall for his arms collection was being set up at the officer's house, but it hasn't been finished. The leader of the PCRM said he also owns hunting guns as he started to hunt in 1969. “At the beginning, I was hunting with the gun of my wife's grandfather. Then I decided to collect my own guns,” he said. According to Minister of the Interior Victor Catan, the former head of state owns the second largest guns collection in Moldova, after businessman Adrian Nichifor. The minister said 42 of the 84 guns held by Voronin are rifled guns, one of which cannot be owned by private individuals. The Government of Moldova intends to modify the legislation and specify the conditions of issuing gun permits and the number of guns that can be owned by one person.
