Voronet Monastery’s commemoration book in Andrei and Valentina Esanu’s book
Academician Andrei Esanu and his wife Valentina Esanu launched the book “Voronet Monastery. History, culture, spirituality”. The work is considered a novelty because of its size and because it includes Voronet Monastery’s commemoration book, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Nun Gabriela, of Voronet Monastery, said she was very glad that the commemoration book was found. Until two years ago, the monastery did not have Bartolomeu Mazareanu’s text dating from the 18th century, which is the original commemoration book discovered in the Central Scientific Library “Andrei Lupan” of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova.
The day of Voronet Monastery was celebrated on April 23, 1991 after a pause of 206 years. “We could not pray for many dead persons then. The news that the commemoration book was found was wonderful news. I and the abbess were full of joy,” nun Gabriela said during the presentation of the work.
The book has three parts. The first is about the history of the monastery, its library and iconographic program, while the second contains the commemoration book translated from Slavonic into Romanian by Bartolomeu Mazareanu in 1775. The third part includes four studies made by researchers on the basis of the commemoration book.
The book has 36 pages of photography and over 400 pages overall. It was printed at the Pontos Publishing House and is the fourth of the series “Unknown Stories and Documents, which is coordinated by Doctor Sergiu Musteata. The first is a volume about Hancu Monastery, the second is a study by Ion Ieremia, while the third deals with history textbooks and was written by Sergiu Musteata.
