Volume of waste in Chisinau doubled

The volume of waste material in the municipality of Chisinau doubled in the last few years, from one to two cubic metres per capita per year, especially due to the high quantities of bottles, plastic packages and food waste. Deputy-director of “Autosalubritate” Management Alexandru Bajura told Monday’s City Hall meeting that the company collects 3500-3700 cubic metres of solid waste daily, by 1000 cubic metres more than the volumes included in the contracts. The cited source asked for the re-examination of the volume of 1 cubic metre of waste, calculated for one person living in the apartment blocks, as well as for increasing the sanitation tax. “The price of fuel increased from MDL 6 to 10. The adjustment of the tariff will allow modernising the equipment of the company, purchasing European-standard type trucks. Alexandru Bajura asked the support of the City Hall in solving the problem of unauthorised parking lots, which block the access of waste collection vehicles to the places where the waste material is deposited by the residents. In what concerns the request of the Mayor to expand the sanitation services in the suburbs of Chisinau, Bajura said that new vehicles are necessary in this respect. At present the company has 90 waste collection trucks.
