Volume of freight has decreased
The railway, road, fluvial and air carriers in April transported 562,500 tonnes of goods, up 3.7% from a month earlier and down 6.6% compared with last April, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communique from the National Bureau of Statistics.
The given companies over the first four months of this year carried 1.809,3 million tonnes of goods or 82.5% of the volume conveyed in the corresponding period last year. The volume of freight transported by fluvial means of transport decreased by 42.1%, by trains – by 21.2%, while by trucks - by 11.0%.
The road carriers working in the municipality of Chisinau transported 57.5% of the total volume of freight, those from Balti -17.8%, Anenii Noi – 5.1%, Ialoveni -3.7%, Straseni – 2.9%, Taraclia – 2.8%, Soroca – 1.5%.
As many as 1.011,9 million tonnes of goods were transported by trains in the period. This is 78.8% of the volume carried during the first four months of 2009. The ferrous metals and scrap metal made up 37.1% of the goods loaded into freight cars, the cereals and bakery products – 21.7%, the building materials and cement – 8.0%.
32.7 million passengers were transported by buses and minibuses, a 3.8% decrease compared with January-April last year. Over January-March this year, 1.157,9 million people traveled by trains, down 14.7% compared with the corresponding period last year.
