Volkov was arrested after allegations against Revenco

Vladimir Volkov, the representative of Ericsson AB in Moldova, was arrested after he claimed at a news conference that Border Police head Roman Revenco had requested a kickback from a EU-funded project. Fiodor Ghelici, the leader of the NGO Moldova Mea, whose assistance Vladimir Volkov sought, stated that the most important thing now is to ensure that Volkov stays alive, especially since Revenco allegedly threatened to hire a hitman to kill him. Fiodor Ghelici says that there are two reasons that can explain Volkov's arrest: either this is a measure to ensure his security after such important disclosures, or this is a move to assassinate him. Ghelici in particular speculated that a cell brawl could be orchestrated to this end. According to lawyer Gheorghe Ranga, this is Volkov's third arrest since June 1. Now he was arrested for 30 days on suspicion of a 50,000 lei fraud.
