The leader of the Party of Communists (PCRM) Vladimir Voronin said the political left should be strengthened in the Republic of Moldova. According to the former President, the parties of the left should unite and design joint social projects. Voronin noted the Party of Development and Consolidation of Moldova led by ex-Premier Ion Chicu is one of the parties with which he would accept to make a pact, IPN reports.
Vladimir Voronin said that the merger of the PCRM and the Party of Socialists (PSRM) is not yet discussed even if the parties combined forces in the snap parliamentary elections of this July. The Bloc of Communists and Socialists was formed with the aim of preventing PAS from gaining a constitutional majority in Parliament.
“In general, the idea of the merger of PSRM and PCRM does not have prospects. In Parliament, we joined forces with the Socialists due to our social programs. In the activity of our joint parliamentary group, we do not experience problems. If we hadn’t united with the Socialists then, those who are now in Parliament could have gained a constitutional majority. This is the reason why we formed this bloc. There are no divergences between the Communists and Socialists in Parliament as we have the same goals. But we will not merge,” Vladimir Voronin stated in the talk show “The Fourth Estate” on N4 channel.
The Communist leader said the parties of the left should unite so as to implement joint social projects for the benefit of citizens. He would accept to cooperate with the party led by ex-Premier Ion Chicu as he considers that this has prospects.
“There are many people who share the ideology of the left. But there is no unity on the left. There are now parties of the left and we even have projects based on which we can start to cooperate with them. I do not refer only to the Socialists here. The party led by Ion Chicu is the first real party I see now,” stated the politician.
He added the PSRM’s decision to field Alexandr Nesterovschi for the mayoralty of Bălți wasn’t discussed with PCRM. The two components of the bloc also didn’t discuss the withdrawal of Nesterovechi from the electoral competition.
