Vladimir Voronin wants early elections by March
Vladimir Voronin said the early legislative elections should take place not later than March. “The Constitutions says that the Parliament cannot be dissolved two times a year, but does not specify the term of one calendar year. As the year starts on January 1, the problem of early elections can be solved immediately,” Voronin said on Tuesday, January 26, quoted by Info-Prim Neo.
“The PCRM has been ready for early elections since the previous early elections,” the Communist leader said.
Vladimir Voronin reiterated his position on the present administration's intention to modify the Constitution of Moldova in order to elect the head of state and overcome the political crisis.
“I do not think that the Constitution should be amended. It is not the case. The Constitution is the supreme law of the country and it should not serve the interests of separate persons,” he said.
The constitutional reform commission set up by presidential decree reached the conclusion that the Constitution of Moldova should be modified. A final decision will be taken by the Parliament.
