Vladimir Voronin urges voters not to take part in September 5 referendum

The September 5 constitutional referendum is a continuation of the power seizure scenario initiated on April 7, 2009, considers former head of state Vladimir Voronin, the leader of the PCRM. In a statement, Vladimir Voronin urges the voters not to participate in the September 5 plebiscite because they will be part of a shameful farce planned by the leaders of the government coalition, Info-Prim Neo reports. “The Alliance for European Integration understands that it cannot govern anymore as it failed to prove its ability to rule during one year in power. Its leaders are afraid and thus decided to amend the Constitution so as to remain in power,” Vladimir Voronin says in his address in Russian, which was published on the PCRM's website on August 16. “The referendum does not belong to the people, but to Ghimpu, Filat, Lupu and all those who want to deprive the people of early legislative elections that can make these impostors past history,” the Communist leader said. Voronin also said that if the AEI leaders manage to hold power, Moldova will be robbed and then transferred to the neighboring country, Romania, or will become a NATO member. “Therefore, we urge you to say “No” to the referendum. Don't go to the referendum. The boxes prepared to rig the votes should remain empty,” Vladimir Voronin said. The PCRM is one of the 25 political organizations registered as participants in the campaign for the September 5 constitutional referendum.
