Vladimir Voronin stresses Security Service’s role in fighting illegal political and media financing

The Security and Information Service (SIS) has the task to combat illegal political and media financing, including from abroad, President Vladimir Voronin said at the extended meeting of the SIS Board on January 31. The Opposition parties play an important part in a democratic society, but only in the circumstances in which their activity is not directed against the state, Vladimir Voronin said, underlining the importance of stepping up the Service’s activities in an effort to anticipate the attempts to undermine the constitutional regime and statehood of Moldova. At the same time, the president stressed that the Security and Information Service must not get involved in political processes but fulfil its duties in strict compliance with the law. Vladimir Voronin said that the Service’s priorities are: to monitor the developments in the country’s financial-banking system in order to prevent and combat offences in the sector; to fight the abuses and illegalities in the distribution and administration of public funds; to make effort to ensure the country’s information security and prevent terrorism. The Service’s head Artur Resetnicov said that this year SIS will make every effort to ensure state security in line with the set objectives.
