The president of the Party of Communists (PCRM) Vladimir Voronin said they haven’t yet taken a clear decision as regards participation in the presidential elections that will take place this year. He didn’t say if the party will field an own candidate or will support another aspirant for President, but noted that if the current system for electing the President, which he considers unconstitutional, remains the same, the Communists will most probably enter the electoral race.
“It should be decided based on what formula, based on what Constitution and rules these elections will take place. If the system remains the same, we will probably compete so as to remove all those who hold posts unjustifiably and dishonestly,” Vladimir Voronin was quoted by IPN as saying in the talk show “Natalia Morari’s Politics” on TV8 channel.
The Communist leader also said that the mixed system based on which the new parliamentary elections will be held in Hâncești constituency is not correct and was thus annulled. Therefore, the PCRM didn’t put forward a candidate for MP in this constituency. “Secondly, what will we do with only one representative in Parliament? What for should he sit there? Who will he guard there? This system is not correct and was annulled,” noted Vladimir Voronin.
He underlined that snap parliamentary elections should be held to remedy the current situation in which Moldova found itself. A new Parliament is needed to also clarify things concerning the presidential elections, the work of the Constitutional Court and many other issues.
