The chairman of the Party of Communists Vladimir Voronin considers the presidential elections scheduled for October 30 will be illegal and thus calls on the political parties to boycott them. He developed the issue in the program “Forth power” on N4 TV channel, IPN reports.
“We didn’t take a decision as to our participation in the presidential elections. We cannot take part in an anticonstitutional event. These elections will be illegal. The parties of the left and of the right too should boycott them. The President that will be elected will be illegitimate and will not be recognized. The heads of state will not shake hands with him and will not pay official visits to the Republic of Moldova,” stated the Communist leader.
Vladimir Voronin noted that the decision concerning the direct election of the head of state was to be taken by referendum or in Parliament. “They had over 400,000 signatures. Why didn’t they hold that referendum? The President should be given more powers or will be elected by the people only to hand out decorations. The outgoing President didn’t have who to award already as Ghimpu awarded everyone,” he said.
Speaking about the conviction of ex-Premier Vlad Filat, the Communist leader said it’s not normal for a Prime Minister to be jailed. “This conviction affects the country’s image. Conditions for the Prime Ministers to be imprisoned shouldn’t have been created. There was a team that voted him in. The fact that Filat didn’t deserve to become Prime Minister is another issue. Iurie Leanca and Chiril Gaburici should also answer for the banking frauds. Do you know why Gaburici resigned? After he signed the Government’s guarantee for the loan provided by the National Bank of Moldova for the three banks, I called Gaburici to me and told him that he made a foolish mistake for which he will have to answer. After this, he was pressed into signing one more such guarantee, but Gaburici preferred to resign,” stated Vladimir Voronin.
Asked if the lawsuit against Filat was filed by order of Vladimir Plahotniuc, the Communist leader answered: “Not Plahotniuc imposed him to take US$250 million bribe”.
