Vladimir Voronin: PCRM wants to manage institutions that are under parliamentary control

The Party of Communists (PCRM) wants to hold managerial posts in a number of institutions that are under parliamentary control, the party’s leader Vladimir Voronin said in the talk show “Place for dialogue” on the public radio station. According to him, the party will mandatorily delegate specialists for holding these posts. “They should only try not to give us these posts,” stated Vladimir Voronin.

He made it clear that they want to manage the Audit Office, the Broadcasting Coordination Council, the Supervisory Board of the National Public Broadcaster “Teleradio-Moldova” and other institutions, but noted that the PCRM is not in power. “Voting for the new Government does not mean that we are taking part in governance. We unblocked the situation so that the country could be governed. These votes mean nothing else,” said the Communist leader, noting that the Communists will support only the bills of a national interest.

As to the Cabinet’s government program for 2015-2018, Vladimir Voronin said it contains several important provisions, including the improvement of relations with the strategic partners, such as Russia and other CIS states, and the keeping of the status of neutrality.

Speaking about the composition of the Cabinet, the Communist leader said the PCRM is not satisfied with the work of five ministers, but voted for the Government so as to avoid early elections. Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici meets the criteria put forward by the PCRM as he came from the business sector, is apolitical and has managerial skills.

As regards the implementation of the Association Agreement with the EU, Vladimir Voronin said that the PCRM in 2002 started to carry out plans aimed at modernizing the country. Moldova will have prospects only if it modernizes according to the European standards. But the Association Agreement should be reviewed and modified in parts because it’s impossible to implement it fully.

The leader of the PCRM also spoke about the local elections, saying the PCRM will field its candidate for the mayoralty of Chisinau. “We will take part in the elections alone, without alliances and blocs, with honest and prepared people,” he stated, adding that current Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca did no reform during eight years and transformed the city into a pile of garbage.

As to the visit by President Klaus Iohannis to Chisinau, Vladimir Voronin said it’s a pity that the Romanian official didn’t meet with the opposition as a meeting would have been useful, noting that the Moldovan-Romanian relations will continue to focus more on the European dimension.
