Vladimir Voronin lies when he says criminological situation has worsened, MP

The Liberal-Democratic MP Vitalie Nagacevschi said that Vladimir Voronin, the leader of the Communists Party (PCRM), profits from the fact that the people do not know about the criminological situation in the country when he says that the crime rate has increased. The MP expressed his confidence that the situation of the 1990s, when the crime rate was at its height, will never repeat in Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports. In a news conference, the Communist leader Vladimir Voronin said that the number of criminal groups has increased during the recent period of political changes, while representatives of the law enforcement bodies said the criminological situation became worse. “The situation is in fact different. We should not forget that the Ministry of the Interior is still headed by (Gheorghe) Papuc and if the situation described by Voronin is real it was created namely by Papuc in order to discredit the Liberal-Democratic parties that came to power,” Nagacevschi said. “No information about criminality was published so far. Has the Ministry of the Interior or the Prosecutor's Office ever provided information about the criminal acts committed during the last 24 hours? We should compare the figures and see if the crime rate rose indeed,” the MP said. Vitalie Nagacevschi considers that Vladimir Voronin profits from the fact that nobody possesses this information and presents the situation as he likes. Nagacevschi denied that the alleged organized crime returned to Moldova. “We will not admit that the situation of the 1990s repeats and that we witness again racket and banditry. We will exclude the blackmail on the part of the law enforcement bodies, who managed to liquidate the organized crime by taking control over it,” the MP said. Late last week, the Head of Parliament Mihai Ghimpu had a meeting with representatives of the law enforcement bodies and asked them why the crime rate rises when the power is changed. “Until we hold these posts, we must fulfill our duties and do not allow the political battle to affect the work of the Ministry of the Interior, the Prosecutor General's Office, the Security and Information Service and other bodies. The people must be sure they will woke up in safety and can walk along the streets safely, during the day and at night,” Mihai Ghimpu said.
